New Century is led by a team of elders, served by a team of deacons, and ruled in a handful of important matters by the congregation. Below you can learn more about the people God has called to serve our church in these unique roles.
Meet Our Elders
What Are Elders?
God has appointed a plurality of "elders," "pastors," or "bishops"—all references to the same church office—to oversee and shepherd the flock of God (1 Pet. 5:2). Elders are men who are qualified according the specific criteria laid out in Scripture (1 Tim. 3:1-5; Tit. 1:5-9) and have been affirmed by the congregation as being fit for ministerial office. As the church's leadership body, they are responsible for teaching the Word, protecting the church's doctrinal integrity, discipling its members, guarding its unity, and providing direction for the flock for whom they will have to give an account (Heb. 13:17).

Chase Krug
Lead Pastor
I am passionate about helping people find their identity and satisfaction in Christ. As Lead Pastor, I am committed to helping New Century reach people for Christ and disciple them to know and treasure the privileges of the Gospel. When I'm not reading, I enjoy college football, golf, movies, music, good food, and trying new things. After graduating from the University of Alabama, I earned an M.Div. in Christian Ministry and a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. I am married to my best friend and better half Rebecca. We have our hands full with our two children, Pierce and Cassie.

Chris cavitt
Pastor of Discipleship
My wife, Moriah, and I came to New Century in 2023. I have a great love for the church of Jesus Christ and am passionate about training and teaching people - particularly the younger generations - to know God through his Word, trust Christ for salvation, and live to His glory. I received my undergraduate degree from West Texas A&M University and later an MTS from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. Currently, I'm back in school pursuing a M.Div. at Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY. I am a proud native Texan who greatly enjoys barbeque, disc golf, travel, Star Wars, Legos, and cheering for the Dallas Mavericks. Moriah and I married in 2020 (not recommended) and love to serve the church together.

Randy farthing
Children's Pastor
I have been working with the children of New Century since 2003. I am a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary with a Master's in Christian Education. My wife Cathy and I have three grown children and four grandchildren.

Greg Smith
Elder
I became an elder in 2020 and have a passion for the scriptures, especially when it comes to linking Old and New Testament Theology. This was cultivated by my time at Appalachian Bible College where I earned a BA in Biblical Theology in 2000. As a native West Virginian, my wife, Melissa, and I have called Roanoke and New Century home for the past fifteen years. Over the years, I have served in the roles of small group leader, mission’s director, and youth leader. We have three children, Micah, Levi and Kylah. In my free time, I can be found on the soccer field, ski slopes, or playing video games.

JOhnny Sink
Elder
I have been an elder at New Century since the beginning of 2020 and a member since the early 2000’s. I am currently the OG elder because I am the only elder originally from Roanoke. I am married to Cristen, who I met at JMU, and we have three children, Kathryn, Jackson, and Waverly. At JMU, I majored in history and minored in secondary education and taught for some time. I am a self-proclaimed history nerd. When I'm not peddling technology and coming up with new business ideas you can find me lifting weights, playing golf, or doing 101 other things, including reading history.

Matt Trent
Elder
I became an elder at New Century in 2024 and have enjoyed serving in different roles as a member ranging from AWANA teacher, small group leader and Sunday school teacher. I had the blessing of growing up in a godly family and became a believer at a young age. As I grew older, I became keenly aware of how gracious God was in giving me a wonderful family that brought me up in a loving Christian environment. I realized God often does amazing things through ordinary means. I am passionate about helping others see God working in the “mundane” and am eager to teach the Bible and theology in a way that is accessible. While at New Century, God gave me an increased hunger for His word through deeper Bible study and a newfound passion for theology. That desire led me to Reformed Theological Seminary where I completed a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies. I am a Cave Spring High School graduate and an alumni of Wingate University. My wife, Emily, and I have been married since 2005 and have three children: Jude, Everett, and Westin. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching just about any sporting event, and love anything related to Jurassic Park or The Lord of the Rings.

jeremy teubert
Elder
C.S. Lewis once wrote, “Most people… want something that cannot be had in this world… If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.” My greatest joy is helping people know and understand the satisfaction found in Jesus.
When I’m not working or raising our three kids—Evelyn, Grayson, and Charlotte—alongside my wife, Brittany, I enjoy reading, listening to music, playing video games, and performing in local theatre (most recently as Reverend Shaw Moore in Footloose at Attic Productions). After working for two years as a missionary, traveling the world to help in churches, schools, and summer camps, I served nearly a decade in the U.S. Army, followed by a few years as a correctional officer. For the past ten years, I’ve worked as an adult educator with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Through all of it, two truths have remained constant: people are worth serving, and the greatest way to serve them is by sharing the hope found in Jesus

Meet Our Deacons
What Are Deacons?
Deacons, qualified members (1 Tim. 3:8-13) affirmed by the congregation as being fit for ministerial office, work alongside the elders as the church’s “lead servants.” From coordinating audio/visual logistics to arranging meals for those who are sick, deacons not only meet the church's ground-level needs, but in doing so, allow the elders to fully devote themselves to their distinct responsibilities of preaching, praying, shepherding, and generally directing the flock (Acts 6:1-6).

Robbie Farthing
Deacon
My wife Melisa and I have been married since 2001 and have been members at New Century the mid 2000’s, serving in a variety of ministries ever since. We have two fantastic blessings in our sons Charlie and Wyatt. While I didn’t become a deacon in a formal capacity until early 2020, growing up I was blessed with a family full of devoted servants both to the Lord and their local churches. I hope to continue following their example, loving the Lord our God with all I have and loving others as myself.

Ryan Poff
Deacon
I have been a deacon at New Century since 2020 and a member since the mid 2000’s. I married my wife and middle school sweetheart Laura, in 2007. We have three beautiful daughters: Addisyn, Ella, and Lachlan as well as two fur babies, Bane and Piper. I attended Radford University where I majored in Secondary Education with a concentration in History and Social Sciences and a minor in World Geography and Cultures. I have been teaching secondary social studies for 14 years and coaching varsity football for 16 years aiming to impact future generations with a Christ-centered example. When I’m not in the classroom or on the gridiron, you can find me lifting weights, at the shooting range, watching any and all things having to do with football, and spending time with my family playing cards or watching movies. I love spending time in prayer, discipling young men on my football team, and listening to political/military thrillers on Audible.

JOsh Clark
Deacon
My wife and I have been members of New Century most recently since 2019, although we met through the college group in 2002. We have two children, Jackson and Amelia. I graduated from Liberty University with a bachelor’s degree in aviation and a master’s degree in management. I have been serving in churches since my teenage years, particularly in audio visual aspects. I enjoy being behind the scenes and creating an environment where people can focus on worshiping our risen savior.”
Meet Our Staff
We love our staff! These folks run most of New Century's day-to-day operations.

Melissa smith
Youth Assistant
I have served at New Century in a variety of roles over the last fifteen years. Currently, I help lead worship and assist in youth programs. My attention to detail and love of planning trips and events, along with a desire for students to grow in their love for Jesus and others, help me in my role as Youth Assistant. In 2001, I earned my BA in Biblical Theology at Appalachian Bible College, where I met my husband Greg. We have been married since 2000 and have three children, Micah, Levi and Kylah. I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, modifying recipes, and eating healthy foods with a side of dark chocolate.
Jennifer wilson
Financial Secretary
I have been the financial secretary at New Century since 2016 and love my job! My husband, Kent, and I have been married for 21 years and counting, and we have a son, Jake. When I'm not in the office, I enjoy knitting, cross-stitching, baking, and reading.

Ann Wilcox
Administrative Secretary
I have attended New Century since 2018 and came on staff in 2023. I have been married to my husband Tim since 1994 and have four grown children. We moved to Smith Mountain Lake from the DC/Baltimore area in 1996. I enjoy listening to books, snuggling with my black labs, and especially love playing games and watching movies with my family and friends.
